Flesh and Sand
《肉與沙》
Alejandro González I?árritu has established himself as one of the great technicians of contemporary cinema, so it makes sense he would be the first mainstream director to turn to virtual reality. Developed over four years, Carne y Arena (Flesh and Sand) is a six-minute 360-degree installation designed for solo viewing that follows a group of migrants from Mexico into the US and shows, with visceral "you-are-there" flourish, the hardships these immigrants endure even without Donald Trump's border wall in place. It's the first VR work to appear at Cannes.
