谷歌要建數(shù)字圖書(shū)館的事情在今年引起了不少爭(zhēng)議。有人支持，說(shuō)是方便閱讀和搜索，是好事；有人反對(duì)，說(shuō)是侵犯版權(quán)，對(duì)作者不公平。爭(zhēng)議歸爭(zhēng)議，人家谷歌早就著手開(kāi)始掃描書(shū)籍了，不過(guò)據(jù)說(shuō)是從orphan book（孤兒書(shū)）開(kāi)始的。
Orphan books refer to volumes still in copyright but out of print and unavailable for sale, and whose copyright holders cannot be found. Rose in 2007 but peaked this year with the fierce discussion over the proposed Google Books settlement.
“孤兒書(shū)”（orphan book）指那些找不到版權(quán)持有者且已經(jīng)不再出版和銷(xiāo)售的書(shū)籍。這個(gè)表達(dá)出現(xiàn)于2007年，但在2009年因?yàn)楣雀鑸D書(shū)事件而成為熱議的話(huà)題。
Google has been scanning the pages of those books and others as part of its plan to bring a digital library and bookstore, unprecedented in scope, to computer screens across the United States.
作為其建立數(shù)字圖書(shū)館和書(shū)店計(jì)劃的一部分，谷歌已經(jīng)開(kāi)始掃描這些“孤兒書(shū)”和其他書(shū)籍，該計(jì)劃規(guī)模史無(wú)前例，意欲遍及全美。
