對(duì)于互聯(lián)網(wǎng)的出現(xiàn)和飛速發(fā)展，很多人都表示熱烈歡迎，稱“科技讓生活更美好”?？梢灿羞@么一些人，他們覺得面對(duì)面的交流更真實(shí)，紙質(zhì)圖書讓他們有足夠的思想空間，數(shù)字世界遠(yuǎn)沒有傳統(tǒng)世界美好。
Speaking of the Internet, the Better-Nevers think that we would have been better off if the whole thing had never happened, that the world that is coming to an end is superior to the one that is taking its place, and that, at a minimum, books and magazines create private space for minds in ways that twenty-second bursts of information don’t.
說到因特網(wǎng)，Better-Nevers（譯為“沒有會(huì)更好派”）認(rèn)為如果這一切（即因特網(wǎng)、數(shù)字信息傳播等）壓根沒有發(fā)生過的話，我們的生活會(huì)更好。他們認(rèn)為正在走向沒落的傳統(tǒng)世界比正在大步躍進(jìn)的數(shù)字世界要高級(jí)得多；至少，傳統(tǒng)世界的書籍和雜志能為我們的大腦營造一個(gè)私有空間，而這是二十秒的信息爆炸所不能企及的。
While some are proclaiming that a new order is upon us which will solve all our problems, the Better-Nevers fear on the contrary that civilization is declining faster than ever before.
當(dāng)一些人宣告一個(gè)新的時(shí)代已來臨、所有問題都將解決的時(shí)候，“沒有會(huì)更好派”卻擔(dān)心我們的文明正在以前所未有的速度消亡。
