 歐盟與美國(guó)商量“免簽證計(jì)劃” [ 2008-03-17 14:54 ]
目前，歐盟27個(gè)成員國(guó)中只有15個(gè)國(guó)家的公民可以免簽赴美旅行，其他成員國(guó)公民即使到美國(guó)短暫訪問(wèn)也需要申請(qǐng)簽證。近日，歐盟和美國(guó)相關(guān)官員舉行會(huì)晤商討歐盟所有成員國(guó)公民赴美免簽證計(jì)劃。

Top justice officials from the European Union (EU) and the United States discussed Thursday in Brdo, Slovenia, the issue of the US Visa Waiver Program, which the EU hopes will allow all EU citizens to travel to America without a visa as soon as possible.
歐盟和美國(guó)的高級(jí)司法官員周四在斯洛文尼亞布而多舉行會(huì)議，討論美國(guó)免簽證計(jì)劃。歐盟官員表示，希望美國(guó)盡快允許所有歐盟成員國(guó)公民免簽證赴美旅行。
該報(bào)道中的Visa Waiver Program就是“免簽證計(jì)劃”。The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) enables nationals of certain countries to travel to the United States for tourism or business for stays of 90 days or less without obtaining a visa, if certain requirements are met. （免簽證計(jì)劃允許特定國(guó)家的居民在達(dá)到特定要求的前提下，訪美目的為旅游或商務(wù)并且停留時(shí)間不超過(guò)90天時(shí)可以免于簽證。）
waiver（a formal written statement of relinquishment）指棄權(quán)、棄權(quán)聲明書，
例如：They are persuaded to sign a waiver of claim against the landlord.經(jīng)勸說(shuō)，他們簽署了放棄向房東索賠的權(quán)利。
簽證（visa）一般有entry visa（入境簽證），exit visa（出境簽證），transit visa（過(guò)境簽證），business visa（商務(wù)簽證），visitor visa（旅游簽證），以及student visa（學(xué)生簽證）等。
