Chinese Sun Tiantian and Serbia's Nenad Zimonjic won the Australian Open mixed doubles final by beating Indian duo Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 in one hour and 21 minutes.
Sun and Zimonjic started the opening set with an early break, but the Indian duo soon answered with a break. Zimonjic's serve was broken soon after and forced the set to a tiebreak eventually.
"I thought we started really well. I felt great in the beginning of the match," said Zimojic.
"It was a lot of fun on the court. I thought we played some really good matches. It was interesting tennis, and I think we both enjoyed it," added Zimojic.
Falling behind at 0-3 in the tiebreak, Sun and Zimonjic rallied to score six games in a row to take the tiebreak at 7-4.
After another early break in the second set, Sun and Zimonjic continued their momentum to rally to the 5-4.
The Indians saved three championship points on Bhupathi's serve in the ninth game, before Zimonjic served out the set to secure the title.
"This is my first Grand Slam final and I was a little bit nervous on the court. But thanks to Nenad, who gave me a lot encourage and playing with an experienced player like him gave me much confidence," said Sun.
The win is Sun's first grand slam title and third for China as Zheng Jie and Yan Zi won at the Australian Open and Wimbledon at 2006.
