薩達姆被執(zhí)行“絞刑”

12月30日，各大媒體最炙手可熱的詞匯是什么？當然是伊拉克前總統(tǒng)薩達姆的“絞刑”處決。據伊拉克電視臺報道，伊拉克當地時間今天凌晨快6點、北京時間上午11點，伊拉克前總統(tǒng)薩達姆在巴格達被執(zhí)行了絞刑。

The former Iraqi president ousted in April 2003 by a US-led invasion was convicted in November of crimes against humanity over the killings of 148 Shi'ite villagers from Dujail after a failed assassination bid in 1982.
對于“hang”（絞刑），我們并不陌生。值得注意的是，hang的過去式和過去分詞有規(guī)則和不規(guī)則變化之分。表示“懸掛”時，其過去式、過去分詞均為“hung”；表示“絞刑”時，其過去式、過去分詞則為“hanged”。
由“hang”，我們順便談幾個與“絞刑/死刑”相關的詞匯。首先，gallows原意是“絞架”，可引申為“絞刑”，所以，一定語境下，如看到“sb. went to the gallows/sb. was taken to the gallows”也表示“某人被執(zhí)行了絞刑”。
此外，“死刑”可表示為“death penalty /execution”，與“death penalty”相比，execution更側重于“執(zhí)行”（死刑）。另外，capital做形容詞，可表示“死刑的”，如：capital offence（死罪）/capital punishment（死刑）。
