7月11日，4名“基地”組織成員從位于駐阿富汗美軍巴格拉姆空軍基地的拘留中心越獄。這是駐阿美軍監(jiān)獄首次發(fā)生犯人越獄逃跑事件。美軍隨后出動(dòng)地面部隊(duì)和直升機(jī)展開大規(guī)模搜捕行動(dòng)。外電報(bào)道如下：Four suspected Arab terrorists broke out of a U.S. military detention facility in Afghanistan on Monday, fleeing through barbed wire stockades in the first escape from the compound since the American military took over the former Soviet airbase.
Also Monday, rescuers reported finding the body of a U.S. Navy SEAL, the last to be accounted for from a four-man special forces unit that disappeared after a June 28 ambush in the rugged mountains in the east of the country.
U.S. and Afghan forces launched a manhunt for the suspects, identified as Arabs from Syria, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Libya. U.S. soldiers set up roadblocks and helicopters clattered low over villages near the heavily guarded base north of the capital, Kabul.

據(jù)悉，4名越獄者分別來(lái)自敘利亞、科威特、沙特阿拉伯和利比亞。越獄事件發(fā)生后，在基地周圍和附近村莊，數(shù)十名美軍士兵每隔數(shù)百米，攔截過(guò)往車輛加以搜查，美軍直升機(jī)在空中盤旋。不過(guò)奧哈拉認(rèn)為，身穿橙色囚服的越獄者可能仍在基地內(nèi)。
