成立于1878年的曼聯(lián)俱樂部，如今已淪為美國人格雷澤的私有財產(chǎn)。英格蘭當?shù)貢r間16日，格雷澤宣布他已經(jīng)實現(xiàn)收購曼聯(lián)俱樂部的第二個戰(zhàn)略目標---購得俱樂部75％以上的股票。按照英國有關(guān)法律，格雷澤可以把曼聯(lián)俱樂部從股市撤牌，將其變成私人企業(yè)。外電報道如下：It's the biggest soccer club in the world, richer than Real Madrid, more successful than Barcelona, a name comparable to the New York Yankees or the Chicago Bulls in global sporting brands. But after the injury of losing freekick prodigy and metrosexual icon David Beckham, the 127-year-old soccer club has been dealt the insult of losing ownership to an American billionaire, Malcolm Glazer.
Mr. Glazer - owner of the 2003 Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers - last week went public with a $1.5 billion buyout, and mopped up the last few shares needed to control the club on Monday.
Mop up表示“作掃尾工作，擦去，揩干，吃光，肅清殘敵”，mop有“用拖把擦洗”之意，例如：mop one's brow（擦去額上的汗水）；mop the floor（拖地板）。此外mopper-up意為“掃蕩者”，而mop-haired則表示“頭發(fā)亂蓬蓬的”。
據(jù)悉，被稱為“球盲大亨”的格雷澤從此可以根據(jù)自己的喜好制定俱樂部的任何計劃，不需經(jīng)過其他股東批準。憤怒的曼聯(lián)球迷聲稱要和格雷澤對抗到底，目前一些曼聯(lián)球迷正以高于格雷澤報的價格收購曼聯(lián)股票，以阻止后者實現(xiàn)他的第三個戰(zhàn)略目標——將自己持有的曼聯(lián)股票比例提高到90％以上，從而通過法律強迫其他股民向他出售股票。
