Reader Question: pep talk “Well, thanks for the pep talk.” Could you explain “pep talk”? My comments: A pep talk is a talk or speech delivered by someone in order to give encouragement. A boss may give a pep talk to a group of employees to bolster morale and increase productivity, while coaches of sports teams can be found giving pep talks to their team players before and during a game to help them strive for the win. Good friends are frequent givers of pep talks when we’re down and need our spirits lifted. The word “pep” comes from “pepper”, an everyday sharp spice which gives flavor to many dishes. In the same way that you can add pepper to spice up your food, you can “pep” up a person and boost their mood with an invigorating chat. High schools in North America are known to have “pep rallies” where students gather together, usually in the school gymnasium, to cheer on the school’s sports team with the help of energetic cheerleaders. 本文僅代表作者本人觀點,與本網立場無關。歡迎大家討論學術問題,尊重他人,禁止人身攻擊和發(fā)布一切違反國家現行法律法規(guī)的內容。 Related stories | |
