 美警方調(diào)查“一夫多妻”宗教組織

美國得克薩斯州警方4月7日宣布，他們近日根據(jù)舉報搜查了當?shù)氐囊粋€“一夫多妻制”宗教組織的巢穴，共解救出534名婦女和兒童，這個數(shù)字比之前當局公布人數(shù)的2倍還要多。受害者中有很多人可能遭到了嚴重的性侵犯，甚至有不少人被囚禁在此多年，從來沒有接觸過外界。

該報道中，polygamist指someone who is married to two or more people at the same time（多配偶者），根據(jù)不用的語境可以譯為“一夫多妻者”或者“一妻多夫者”，polygamy就是“多配偶制”，這樣的婚姻制度現(xiàn)在已經(jīng)很少見了。 我們所知道的“一夫一妻制”是monogamy，“遵守一夫一妻制者”就是monogamist。
上面的報道中，還有一個短語不得不拿出來說一下，a brush with the law，意為 a brief encounter or experience with the police because of a crime，即犯法。
例如：If you don't want a brush with the law, stop doing that!。如果你不想犯法，就停止做那件事。
