David Beckham has come under fire 遭到譴責 from his Los Angeles Galaxy teammate 隊友 Landon Donovan for what he sees as a lack of commitment 缺少職業(yè)奉獻精神 to the club.
Beckham, who has recently returned to Los Angeles from five months on loan 出借 to Italian team AC Milan, was also described as being stingy 吝嗇, selfish 自私, and having a negative influence 負面影響 on the players around him.
Landon Donovan, who is the captain of the United States international side 國際隊, made the comments in an interview for a book called The Beckham Experiment.
But Beckham hit back 回擊 at Donovan for criticising him in public 公開的, without talking to him face-to-face 面對面 first.
"It is unprofessional in my eyes," said Beckham, who plans to speak to Donovan in person 本人 soon. When Beckham says "in my eyes", he means in my opinion, or as I see it.
Landon Donovan also thought Beckham should try harder for someone who is paid so much:
"Does the fact that he earns that much more money come into it 有關系嗎? Yeah. If someone's paying you more than double anybody in the league, the least we expect 最低的期待 is that you show up 出現(xiàn) to every game, whether you are suspended 停賽 or not. Show up and train hard 刻苦訓練, show up and play hard 竭盡全力踢球."
He said he thought Beckham's commitment had waned 衰退了 after the departure of coach Ruud Gullitt last year.
"Something happened at some point 某個時候 last year where a switch went off 出了一些問題, and that's what I want to talk to him about, and we'll figure that out man-to-man 面對面地解決."
Donovan said he didn't regret making the comments but he regretted the way they came out in public first, and looked forward to the chance to speak to Beckham one-on-one 一對一.
Beckham said he would not be read the unofficial book, which he dubbed as "just another one on the shelf ".
LA Galaxy played their first game of the new Major League Soccer (MLS) season 賽季 on Saturday and Beckham returns for his first training session on Monday.
Asked how he would adjust to the pace 適應步調(diào) of MLS after playing in Italy he said, "It's not going to be difficult because we've got talent 人才 on our team.
"I think the experiences I've had can only help this team."
