70 years of atonement ends
A former Japanese soldier, who spent 70 years in China atoning for what Japanese invaders did to Chinese civilians, died at the age of 103, chinanews.com.cn reported. Hiroshi Yamazaki (see photo) died Wednesday afternoon at his home in Jinan, Shandong. Yamazaki's family said he fled duty because he was upset about Japanese military atrocities in China during the World War II. His main wish was to make up for the tragedies, which explains why he devoted his life to providing medical aid after settling down in Jinan in 1937.
