日前教育部召開新聞發(fā)布會，決定從3月開始，組織專人對高校落實國家助學貸款的情況進行巡回督察和督辦，對于經(jīng)辦銀行提出的不按時還款等嚴重違約的學生，將在新聞媒體上公布這些學生的姓名、身份證號、畢業(yè)學校等信息。

報道中的loan defaulters 可以用文章里的另一句話來解釋，即the debtors who fail to repay their interest-free college loans（拖欠償還銀行所發(fā)放的無息貸款的學生）。Defaulter來源于動詞default（拖欠債務(wù)；違約不履行義務(wù)），舉個例子：He defaulted on his payments for support of the child（他拖欠給孩子的撫養(yǎng)費），句中的介詞on可以省略。
值得一提的是，default除了有"拖欠"的意思外，還常表示"比賽棄權(quán)；法庭傳訊時未出席"，例如：They defaulted in the badminton tournament（他們在羽毛球錦標賽中棄權(quán)了），相應(yīng)的，defaulter可以指"缺席者，受傳時不到庭的人"。另外，default做名詞時常和介詞by連用，如：He lost the tennis match by default（他因棄權(quán)而輸了網(wǎng)球賽）。
