The first competition was held in 1884.It wasn't until 1887 that riders began competing in the prone position used today. The sport received its name in 1892, when a new sled made mostly of metal was introduced. People thought it looked like a skeleton.
俯式冰撬最早流傳于北歐。它是以雪橇為工具，借助起滑的慣性，從山坡沿專門(mén)構(gòu)筑的冰道快速滑降的一種運(yùn)動(dòng)項(xiàng)目。比賽中，運(yùn)動(dòng)員采用俯臥姿勢(shì)，頭部在前，以皮靴防滑釘控制運(yùn)動(dòng)方向。冰橇運(yùn)動(dòng)的開(kāi)始過(guò)程與雪橇運(yùn)動(dòng)相同。句中說(shuō)，因?yàn)檫\(yùn)動(dòng)員的裝束與狀態(tài)像一架骷髏，此項(xiàng)體育競(jìng)賽于1892年正式命名為skeleton。
