Economists working for the Mayor of London forecast last month's deadly attacks will cost the city's economy up to 300 million pounds (540 million dollars, 440 million euros), a newspaper said.
But the Financial Times added that the predicted economic loss of between 200 and 300 million pounds was far short of the 600-million-pound slump in business suffered by London before, during and immediately after the Iraq war.
"Six weeks after the July 7 attacks killed 56 people, including four suicide bombers, the Greater London Authority (GLA) accepts there has been some downturn," the economic daily reported.
句中的 "downturn" means a reduction in the amount or success of something, such as a country's economic activity"(尤指經(jīng)濟(jì)方面的)衰退;下降趨勢(shì)"。如:There is a evidence of downturn in the building trade/house prices.(有證據(jù)表明建筑業(yè)/房?jī)r(jià)有下降趨勢(shì)。)
