Tank Girl
If you thought anti-establishment fashion icon Vivienne Westwood was in danger of losing her edge, think again. The 74-year old punk legend recently made headlines when driving an armored tank to the doorstep of UK Prime Minister David Cameron. She was protesting against fracking. Now, that’s punk. At least, it’s way more punk than anything today’s young punks are doing. What are punks today even doing? Working in start ups? Dating Kardashians? I don’t even know. Rock on Vivienne.
Onion no more
If you were in Australia this week you may have noticed something strange - people hanging onions outside their front door. Why so, you may ask? Well, on Monday, September 14, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott, was unseated from the top job, not by a public election, but by his own political party, who replaced him as their leader with a guy called Malcolm Turnbull. This happened because Abbott was really unpopular with...pretty much everyone. One of the weirdest things Abbott did while in office, and there are a few, was eat an onion. A raw onion. Like it was an apple. When it happened the Australian public collectively said “Did he... did he just eat a onion?” “Yeah. I... think he did,” “What a weirdo”. So of course, when Abbott was booted from office this week the online hashtag #putoutyouronions soon went viral. One wag even placed a bag of onions on the door of Abbott’s Sydney electoral office. If there is one lesson to be taken from this incident, surely it’s this, don’t eat a raw onion. Ugh.
Grandpa Pole
China is pretty used to pole dancing grandmothers, but what about a pole dancing grandfather? 66-year old Zhang Xida from Chengdu, Sichuan province took up the sport two years ago because he had a crush on one of the other dancers the class. Instead of simply asking the object of his affections on a date, he joined the class and started wearing a woman’s bra and hot pants. He’s now really good at pole dancing and an online sensation, but we’re unsure if his crush is that impressed.
