所謂的“凈勝球數(shù)”（goal differential）就是一支球隊(duì)在一輪比賽中的進(jìn)球數(shù)（goals scored）減去失球數(shù)（goals allowed）。比如，美國的進(jìn)球數(shù)和失球數(shù)都是4，其凈勝球數(shù)就為0，而葡萄牙的進(jìn)球數(shù)是4，而失球數(shù)是7，凈勝球數(shù)則為-3，由此得出，美國隊(duì)排在葡萄牙隊(duì)之前。

如果第一輪比賽后，兩隊(duì)積分相同，凈勝球數(shù)也相同，那么就只能靠“抽簽”（draw lots）來決定哪一隊(duì)出線了。
