More than 170 students from Fudan University signed a petition pleading for leniency for a former postgraduate student who received the death sentence in February for killing his roommate by poisoning.

170多名復(fù)旦大學(xué)學(xué)生發(fā)出聯(lián)名求情信，請(qǐng)求對(duì)因投毒殺害室友而在今年2月被判處死刑的該校一名研究生從輕判決。

在英文中，“求情”多用plead或intercede表示，常見(jiàn)的搭配為plead/intercede with someone for something/someone（為某事或某人向某人求情），如：He interceded with the teacher for me.

我們平時(shí)說(shuō)到對(duì)犯罪分子的懲罰原則時(shí)經(jīng)常會(huì)提到“寬嚴(yán)相濟(jì)”，這個(gè)原則在英語(yǔ)中可用tempering justice with mercy表示；另外，審訊嫌疑人時(shí)警方最常用的那句“坦白從寬，抗拒從嚴(yán)”則多用leniency to those who confess, severity to those who resist來(lái)表示。
