Spokespersons for Communist Party of China (CPC) committees at all levels should efficiently release news and better understand the rules of news communication in an age of information, a senior CPC official said on Tuesday.
Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at the first national training program for CPC committee spokespersons.
More than 200 spokespersons and publicity officials from central and local CPC departments attended the three-day event, which ended on Wednesday in Beijing.
The topics discussed included: the basic requirements for Party spokespersons, how to release information and communicate with reporters, information flow in an information age, the organization of news conferences, and how to release news of emergencies.
Li said China is starting to implement its 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015) and will celebrate the 90th anniversary of the CPC's founding this year. The country is now faced with both valuable opportunities and serious difficulties, so the spokespersons will be busy.
The establishment of a spokesperson system was a goal set by the CPC Central Committee in September 2009. Wang Chen, chief of the International Communication Office of the CPC Central Committee, which held the training event, said attaining that goal will be of great significance as the Party works to improve itself and develop inner Party democracy.
Spokespersons for CPC committees should learn the rules of news communication and improve their ability to talk with reporters, Wang told those who attended the training on Tuesday.
He called on CPC committees this year to release information about activities surrounding the 90th anniversary of the CPC's founding, the major working plans of central and local Party departments, and new measures adopted by Party departments to promote scientific development and social harmony.
He said information about Party-related major incidents or hot-button issues should also be made public quickly.
