SHANGHAI - A massive thermometer at the Shanghai World Expo Park has been conveying the real-time weather information to visitors day and night.
The 165-meter Expo Thermometer, the highest meteorological signal tower in the world, is located in the Puxi Expo Park along the Huangpu River.
The thermometer-like tower, converted from a chimney in the 110-year-old Shanghai Nanshi Power Plant, displays the current temperature as well as the highest and lowest temperature of the day every hour.
At night, the tower top would change colors in accordance with weather conditions: white represents good weather, sunny or cloudy, while purple represents bad weather, rainy or snowy.
The park is also equipped with a meteorological observation station to provide good weather service.
