Anecdote between Mark Williams and Joe Calzaghe: ‘Joe Calzaghe beat me at snooker'
AFTER his 6-0 drubbing at the hands of Neil Robertson in January’s Masters at Wembley, it came as no surprise to hear Mark Williams had been beaten again on the snooker table at his local club.
Only the victor was not one of the other Welsh professionals he often practices against but his good mate from another sporting arena, world boxing champion Joe Calzaghe.
Maybe this slump in form for Williams - himself a two-time world title holder on the green baize - was more serious than first suspected...
But, once Calzaghe has departed the Emporium Snooker Club in Bargoed - presumably for some more serious training of his own ahead of his next Millennium Stadium fight night - his friend lets on his tactics.
"I let Joe win," whispers Williams. "Because I'm frightened he'd give me a good slap if I didn't."
