美國11月大選近在咫尺，“支持率”越來越成為媒體的熱門詞匯。根據(jù)最新民意調(diào)查，在伊拉克戰(zhàn)爭、道德規(guī)范和領(lǐng)導(dǎo)能力等方面，民主黨的支持率均超過布什總統(tǒng)所在的共和黨。與此同時(shí)，布什和由共和黨控制的國會的支持率“跌跌不休”。

The latest polls give Democratic candidates a growing edge of between 13 and 23 percentage points over Republicans on the November ballot, with Bush'sapproval ratingsdropping back into the 30s.
“支持率”相應(yīng)的英文表達(dá)是“approval ratings”，“rating”在這里指“評估、評價(jià)”，和approval 連用時(shí)常做復(fù)數(shù)，如：The Gallup poll gave the Senator an 83 per cent approval ratings.（蓋洛普民意測驗(yàn)結(jié)果表明這位參議院擁有83%的支持率。）
此外，rating可作“等級級別（尤指軍階）”、“收視率”，如：a ship with a rating of 200000 tons（20萬噸級的船舶）；good ratings（收視率很好）。
