近日，在英語新聞報(bào)道中經(jīng)常會碰到一個(gè)新詞"spam"，意指"junk mail"（垃圾郵件）。據(jù)調(diào)查，中國是垃圾郵件的"重災(zāi)區(qū)"和受害國，而普受網(wǎng)民關(guān)注和稱道的"陽光綠色網(wǎng)絡(luò)工程"已于2月21日啟動，這項(xiàng)工程分為治理"垃圾郵件"、治理"不良短信"、提倡"網(wǎng)絡(luò)安全"和治理"非法網(wǎng)上服務(wù)"4個(gè)部分。

報(bào)道中的spam可以解釋為："junk e-mail; unsolicited e-mail, often of a commercial nature, sent indiscriminately to multiple mailing lists, individuals, or newsgroups"（收件人事先沒有提出要求或者同意接收的廣告、電子刊物等宣傳性的電子郵件）。
另外，spam可以用作動詞，指"to send unsolicited e-mail to"（發(fā)送垃圾郵件的行為），舉個(gè)例子，"According to the new regulation, it is illegal to spam Internet users with unsolicited commercials"（根據(jù)新的規(guī)定，不征求互聯(lián)網(wǎng)用戶同意而發(fā)送商業(yè)廣告等垃圾郵件是非法行為）。由此，報(bào)道中的spammer則是動詞spam的另一相應(yīng)名詞形式"發(fā)送電子郵件的人"。
