作為“藝述英國”的旗艦活動(dòng)之一,英國著名作家大衛(wèi)?米切爾(David Mitchell)將于2012年8月11日來到中國,與中國作家和文學(xué)愛好者們展開為期10天的中外文化交流活動(dòng)。大衛(wèi)?米切爾是英國當(dāng)代文壇不可多得的天才作家。由于在日本旅居多年,米切爾集東西方文學(xué)之所長,他具備了保羅?奧斯特編織絢麗迷宮的能力,又擅長如村上春樹一般將幽靈鬼怪埋藏于字里行間。1999年,他的小說處女作《幽靈代筆》一經(jīng)出版,立即轟動(dòng)歐美文學(xué)界。之后,米切爾的名字便成為西方各種文學(xué)獎(jiǎng)名單上的??汀?003年,他憑借暢銷小說《云圖》獲得英國國家圖書獎(jiǎng)。2007年,他更以杰出的文學(xué)成就被美國《時(shí)代》雜志評選為“世界100位最具影響力人物”之一。
在他的中國之行中,將與來自中國的優(yōu)秀作家,展開一場史無前例的精彩交流,從各具特色的中外文學(xué)作品出發(fā),探討文學(xué)藝術(shù)的多樣性,必將碰撞出別樣的思想火花。

David Mitchell has been hailed as one of the "Best of Young British Novelists" by British Granta magazine, listed in "The 100 Most Influential People in the World" by Time weekly and has had five novels translated into Chinese.
Mitchell’s 10-day tour, organised in collaboration with Shanghai Book Fair and Shanghai Literature & Art Publishing House, is packed with talks, book-signings, readings, speeches and discussions. Fans of his work and literature lovers alike have plenty of opportunity to meet him in person, and copies of his five translated books will be presented to readers.
Two of David Mitchell’s novels – number9dream and Cloud Atlas – were short-listed for the Booker Prize in 2001 and 2004 respectively. A film based on Cloud Atlas of the same name, will be shown in European cinemas in October this year, reaching fans in China by the end of the year.
About David Mitchell
David Mitchell was born in Southport, England, in 1969, and grew up in Malvern, Worcestershire. He studied English and American Literature at the University of Kent, going on to gain an MA in Comparative Literature at the same university. He taught English in Japan for eight years.
David Mitchell’s first novel, Ghostwritten, (1999) includes nine mutually independent but interlinking stories taking place in Japan, Hong Kong, Sichuan, Mongolia, London and New York respectively, was narrated by nine different narrators. This novel was awarded the John Lewellyn Rhys Prize, and was short-listed for the Guardian First Book Award.
His second novel, number9dream, (2001) was short-listed for the Booker Prize in 2002. This novel earned him a place among Granta’s Best Young British Novelists and tells the story of a Japanese boy looking for his biological father.
His third novel, Cloud Atlas, (2004) was awarded British National Book Award’s Book of the Year and short-listed for the Booker Prize, Nebula Award, John Bates Clark Medal. It is a popular best seller with a million copies printed, and an epic of humanity.
His fourth novel, Black Swan Green, (2006) was awarded National Library Journal Best Novel title, short-listed for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, and nominated for the Booker Prize.
His fifth novel, The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet, (2010) was awarded Commonwealth Writers’ Prize and nominated for the Booker Prize.
