Well there's rather a lot of things I like about the Proms. The fact that I can go to hear a different piece of music every night.

Just listening to the music and seeing famous soloists, and being up very close to them.

It's just fantastic and it's very good for the soul and the brain.

Andrea: Have you ever heard of The Proms?

Feifei: Of course! The Royal Albert Hall.

Andrea: It lasts from July to September and if you love music, especially classical music, I would highly recommend it!

Feifei: But you don't have to love only classical music 古典樂 to enjoy the Proms.

Andrea: Hello, I'm Andrea. This is On the Town.

Andrea: Let's have a listen again to some people who regularly go to the Proms – they're known as Prommers - to find out why exactly they love these concerts.

It's great for the prommers to be so close to the performers.

Well there's rather a lot of things I like about the Proms. The fact that I can go to hear a different piece of music every night.

Just listening to the music and seeing famous soloists, and being up very close to them.

It's just fantastic and it's very good for the soul and the brain.

Andrea: Someone else talked about the famous soloists.

It's just fantastic and it's very good for the soul and the brain.

A prommer

Andrea: And someone else thinks that going along to watch is very good for the soul and the brain.

但是我覺得有趣的是另外一位女士說她非常喜歡 being up close to the performers. I wonder what she meant by that?

Andrea: Well, as well as the seating around the Royal Albert Hall, there's also a large area right in front of the stage where people can stand and listen to the concerts. So you can really be up close to the musicians.

Feifei: How wonderful to stand so close to the stage 舞臺(tái)。

Andrea: And what's even better, is that it doesn't cost very much to stand and watch these fantastic classical concerts. It only costs £5 a ticket!

Wow! That's very affordable Kate Finch

It was important for London to have concerts that ordinary people could go to, that every day – a working man – could go to the Proms. So he set up this concert series and they performed every night at a hall called the Queen's Hall in London and then later on it moved to the Royal Albert Hall.

Kate says that ordinary people 普通老百姓,the working man 工薪階層通過音樂會(huì)這個(gè)平臺(tái)也有機(jī)會(huì)來聽古典樂。

I like the fact that by standing you have the best acoustic in the building.

Andrea: That woman says that when you stand you have the best acoustic in the building.

Feifei: The best acoustic in the building

I like the fact that by standing you have the best acoustic in the building.

A prommer

Andrea: And it can also be a lot of fun standing on the Last Night of the Proms.

Andrea: Take a listen to find out.

The first part of the concert is like a normal concert and then they all just go mad after. All the whistles and things go. Let your hair down, don't you.

They bring hooters and Union Jacks. I would say it's a bit like an end of term party!

Andrea: So the first part of the concert is a normal classical concert.

At the Last Night of the Proms people wave flags

Union Jacks.

Andrea: The woman says people 'let their hair down'.

Feifei: 如果你 'let your hair down', 意思是你完全放松,盡情享受。

Andrea: The other woman said that the Last Night of The Proms is like an end of term party. I remember having those at university!

Feifei: Oh yes – end of term parties. It must be magical!

Andrea: I know where I'm going this summer!

Feifei: Definitely! Bye!

Andrea: Bye!
