Up to 50 percent of the world's rangelands are degraded, endangering food security and the wellbeing of billions, warned the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in a report on Tuesday.
《聯(lián)合國(guó)防治荒漠化公約》21日發(fā)布的一份報(bào)告警告,全球多達(dá)50%的牧場(chǎng)退化,危及糧食安全和數(shù)十億人的福祉。
Rangelands constitute 54 percent of the Earth's land cover, account for one-sixth of global food production, and represent nearly one-third of the planet's carbon reservoir, according to a report.
根據(jù)《全球土地展望——牧場(chǎng)與牧民專題報(bào)告》,牧場(chǎng)約占全球陸地面積的54%,占全球食物供應(yīng)的六分之一,占地球碳儲(chǔ)量的近三分之一。
"When we cut down a forest, when we see a 100-year-old tree fall, it rightly evokes an emotional response in many of us. The conversion of ancient rangelands, on the other hand, happens in 'silence' and generates little public reaction," said the UN group’s Executive Secretary Ibrahim Thiaw.

"Imbalance between the supply of and demand for animal forage lands leads to overgrazing, invasive species, and the increased risk of drought and wildfires -- all of which accelerate desertification and land degradation trends around the world," said Maryam Niamir-Fuller, co-chair of the International Support Group for the UN's International Year for Rangelands and Pastoralists 2026.

"For the sake of future generations and economic stability, we need to improve awareness of and safeguard the immense value of rangelands," said Carlos Manuel Rodriguez, CEO and chairperson of the Global Environment Facility.

The report recommends integrating climate strategies, reducing land conversion, and supporting pastoralism to restore rangeland health.

"The meaningful participation of all stakeholders is key to responsible rangeland governance, which fosters collective action and integrates traditional knowledge and practical skills," said Pedro Maria Herrera Calvo, the report's lead author.

我國(guó)成功淘汰29種類POPs,即全面淘汰公約對(duì)中國(guó)已生效的POPs生產(chǎn)和使用,每年避免了數(shù)十萬(wàn)噸POPs的產(chǎn)生和環(huán)境排放。我國(guó)實(shí)現(xiàn)了在二噁英類排放相關(guān)行業(yè)產(chǎn)量或處置量大幅上升的情況下,重點(diǎn)行業(yè)煙氣二噁英排放強(qiáng)度大幅下降,向大氣排放的二噁英總量在2012年達(dá)峰后逐步下降,大氣環(huán)境中二噁英濃度相應(yīng)呈下降趨勢(shì),一般人群膳食二噁英類平均攝入量低于世界衛(wèi)生組織的健康指導(dǎo)值且呈下降趨勢(shì)。
