As the UK sweltered in a heatwave, ten players took part in the Dive Chess World Championships in London.

“I thought it would be a breeze but it definitely isn’t. Trying to see the pieces, keep yourself down there is a lot more difficult and especially once you play a long game there – you’re doing 30, 40 moves.”

Once a player needs to come up for air, it’s their opponent’s turn.
