> China, Pakistan hold joint maritime drill
中巴“海洋衛(wèi)士-2”海上聯(lián)合演習(xí)開幕

A four-day joint maritime exercise between China and Pakistan kicked off on Sunday.
7月10日，為期4天的中巴海上聯(lián)合演習(xí)拉開序幕。

The drill, codenamed Sea Guardians-2, is a normal activities under a yearly plan between the two militaries, said Liu Wensheng, spokesperson for the People's Liberation Army Navy. It is not related to any regional situation and does not target any third party, Liu added.
海軍新聞發(fā)言人劉文勝海軍大校表示此次代號“海洋衛(wèi)士-2”的聯(lián)合演習(xí)是中巴兩國海軍根據(jù)年度計劃作出的正常安排，與地區(qū)局勢無關(guān)，不針對任何第三方。

The joint exercise aims to enhance defense cooperation, exchange expertise and experience, deepen the traditional friendship between the two countries and militaries and promote the development of the China-Pakistan strategic cooperative partnership.
聯(lián)演旨在增進雙方防務(wù)合作、交流專業(yè)技術(shù)與經(jīng)驗、深化兩國兩軍傳統(tǒng)友誼，促進中巴全天候戰(zhàn)略合作伙伴關(guān)系發(fā)展。

> National botanical garden opens in Guangzhou
華南國家植物園正式揭牌

China's second national botanical garden opened on Monday in Guangzhou.
我國第二家國家植物園——華南國家植物園11日在廣州正式揭牌。

Built on the current South China Botanical Garden in the eastern part of the city, its establishment was approved by the State Council in June.
華南國家植物園建在中國科學(xué)院華南植物園的基礎(chǔ)上，于今年6月經(jīng)國務(wù)院批準(zhǔn)建立。

With 333 hectares of exhibition and scientific research areas, it is the world's largest south subtropical botanical garden, as well as one of China's oldest institutions for botanical research and conservation.
園區(qū)展覽和科研用地333公頃，是目前世界上最大的南亞熱帶植物園，是我國歷史最悠久的植物學(xué)研究和保護機構(gòu)之一。

In the next three to five years, a national plant conservation center will be established there to effectively protect 95 percent of rare and endangered plants in South China.
未來3到5年還將建立華南國家植物遷地保護中心，使華南地區(qū)珍稀瀕危植物的95%得到有效保護。

> NASA unveils first full-color images from Webb

NASA on Tuesday showcased the first full-color images captured by the James Webb Space Telescope.
當(dāng)?shù)貢r間11日，美國國家航空航天局（NASA）公布了詹姆斯?韋伯太空望遠鏡拍攝的首張全彩色照片。

Taken by the telescope’s Near-Infrared Camera, the image – dubbed Webb's First Deep Field – captured thousands of galaxies in sharp detail.
這張照片名為“韋布的首次深空”，是韋伯望遠鏡拍攝到迄今為止最深的宇宙紅外圖像。

The image showcases the galaxy cluster SMACS 0723 as it appeared 4.6 billion years ago, according to NASA.
NASA表示，照片內(nèi)容為星系團SMACS 0723，包含了數(shù)千個星系，距離地球46億光年。

The $10 billion project is the world's largest and most powerful space observatory ever built.
詹姆斯?韋伯天空望遠鏡造價100億美元，是NASA迄今建造的最大、功能最強的空間望遠鏡。

The telescope was launched into space last December from Europe's Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana.

> Flood-proof floating houses invented in Japan
日本推出定制“抗洪屋”，不僅防水還能漂浮

A Japanese housing developer recently unveiled a “flood-resistant house” that can not only remain waterproof during floods, but also float off the ground.
日本一家房地產(chǎn)開發(fā)商最近推出了一款“抗洪屋”，當(dāng)洪水來襲時它不僅防水，還能浮起來。

The house is connected to a number of thick iron rods sticking out of the ground with thick cables that ensure it stays in place as the water floods past.

When the waters recede, the floating house comes back down to its original position.

It also features special vents that close in the event of flooding, and the plumbing has special valves that prevent water from getting into the home.
