Jiaying
Well, umm…
Rob
… you know, food, drink, dancing – I can’t wait for it!
Jiaying
Err… Rob, didn’t you get the message? I’ve had to push back on the party.
Rob
Push back? You’re moving the location?
Jiaying
No, I mean delay it. 如果你 “push back” 一項計劃或安排，意思就是 “推遲某件事情，延期進行”。我這場聚會不能如期舉辦了。
Rob
Oh, right. So, it’s starting later – about eight o’clock?
Jiaying
No, I’ve had to push back by weeks! For now, I’ve postponed it. 我們也可以用動詞 “postpone” 來表示 “推遲、延后原本的計劃或安排”。
Rob
Oh, dear, I was really looking forward to a night out. Have you pushed back on listening to the examples as well?
Jiaying
