“to nip something in the bud”(把某事扼殺在萌芽狀態(tài))指在某事釀成大禍或鑄成大錯(cuò)前及早地制止。
The manager told the team to identify problems early and nip them in the bud.

to turn over a new leaf形容一個(gè)人改過自新,成為一個(gè)更好的人,多指改掉壞的習(xí)慣。

She's turned over a new leaf. She exercises every day now.
她開啟了新的生活,現(xiàn)在每天都健身。
03 An olive branch
橄欖枝(象征和平)
hold out or offer an olive branch向某人伸出橄欖枝,意思是愿意和某人和解。
It was only after one of the rivals held out an olive branch that both groups decided to stop fighting.
直到敵對方伸出橄欖枝示好后,雙方才決定停止戰(zhàn)斗。
04 Sow the seeds
播種
To sow the seeds指為以后的事埋下或好或壞的伏筆。
She is sowing the seeds of her own downfall.
她為自己的垮臺埋下了種子。
05 Beat around the bush
說話繞圈子
To beat around the bush意思是說話兜圈子,避重就輕,也可以說to beat about the bush,我們用這個(gè)詞來形容一個(gè)人說話啰嗦冗長。
