>Cruise's new movie in space
Tom Cruise wants to fly into outer space in the name of filmmaking, and NASA says it's happening.
NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine said in a tweet that his agency is working with actor Cruise for a film on board the International Space Station.
A few films have been shot on board the space station, including a 2002 IMAX documentary that Cruise narrated.
But Cruise could be the first actor to endure extraterrestrial travel.
Deadline first reported that Cruise was working with NASA.
That report also said that SpaceX is involved, but NASA declined to comment when CNBC asked if Elon Musk's space company was working on the project as well.
It would make sense for SpaceX to be involved in Cruise's orbital movie plans, given deals the company has signed already to fly non-professional astronauts to the space station.
>Glow-in-the-dark plants
Plants that "glow-in-the-dark" have been developed by researchers using DNA taken from mushrooms.
A global team of researchers, funded by biotech startup Planta, found that the bioluminescence in some mushrooms is similar to natural processes in plants.
This allowed them to take the mushroom DNA and add it to a version of the tobacco plants, because of their simple genetics and rapid growth.
Plants containing the mushroom DNA glow continuously throughout their lifecycle, from seedling to maturity – they don't need to acquire new chemicals.
Scientists from the study hope to be able to produce glowing roses, periwinkles and other garden flowers in the future. The research has been published in the journal Nature Biotechnology.

Michael Melham, who is the mayor of Belleville, New Jersey, said he has tested positive for coronavirus antibodies and believes he was sickened in November, which would mean his case could be the earliest reported in the US, according to a local news report.
The earliest official US case, which was announced by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Jan 21, was of a man who had returned to the Seattle area after visiting Wuhan, China.
