The split-second encounter between prey and predator – called the Moment – has won the man who captured it the title of Wildlife Photographer of the Year, which is developed and produced by the Natural History Museum, in London. Photographer Bao Yongqing took the picture on a meadow in China's Qilian Mountains National Nature Reserve, beating 48,000 entries from 100 countries.

"Photographically, it is quite simply the perfect moment," said Roz Kidman Cox, the chair of the judging panel.

The prospect of astronauts tucking into a roast dinner has grown slightly closer after a successful experiment used a 3D printer to create meat on the International Space Station.
