A dropout from prestigious Peking University has beaten all other science students in his home province of Hubei in this year's gaokao, the national college entrance examination, with his story going viral online. Chang Shujie, who scored 712 out of 750 points this year, was enrolled by Peking University in 2015 with a similarly staggering 690 points.

As a junior student in the university, Chang was persuaded to drop out for failing too many subjects after excessively indulging in computer games, according to sources.
據(jù)知情人士介紹，大三時常書杰因過度沉迷于電腦游戲，導(dǎo)致太多學(xué)科成績不及格，被北大勸退。

Chang's case sparked heated discussions online. On Sina Weibo, many people were amazed at his talents, while some wished he would study harder this time at university.
常書杰的情況在網(wǎng)上引發(fā)熱議。許多人在新浪微博上稱贊他有才，還有人希望這次他在大學(xué)里能更努力地學(xué)習(xí)。

Some netizens also expressed appreciation for efforts by Chinese universities to maintain high quality by persuading failing students to quit, instead of operating in a mode where it's "hard to get enrolled, but easy to graduate".

>China has 2.4M drug addicts
全國吸毒人數(shù)出現(xiàn)下降

The number of new drug users in 2018 decreased by 26.6% from the previous year, a report on China's drug control situation showed. New drug users under the age of 35 fell 31% last year, according to the report issued by the China National Narcotics Control Commission.
國家禁毒辦發(fā)布的中國毒品形勢報告顯示，2018年我國新發(fā)現(xiàn)吸毒人員數(shù)量同比減少26.6%，35歲以下新發(fā)現(xiàn)吸毒人員數(shù)量減少31%。

The report noted there were about 2.4 million drug users nationwide at the end of 2018, down 5.8% from the year before, adding that 1.35 million of the drug users were addicted to methamphetamine.
報告指出，2018年年底，全國共有吸毒人員約240萬名，同比下降5.8%。其中，濫用冰毒人員135萬名。

Methamphetamine has replaced heroin as the most addictive drug in China and marijuana abuse continued to rise in 2018, according to the report.
報告稱，冰毒已取代海洛因成為我國濫用人數(shù)最多的"頭號毒品"，去年大麻濫用人數(shù)也持續(xù)增加。

>FedEx sues US government
聯(lián)邦快遞起訴美商務(wù)部

US delivery company FedEx has filed a lawsuit against the US government, arguing that it should not be required to enforce federal government export bans.
美國快遞公司聯(lián)邦快遞近日對美國政府提起訴訟，稱后者不該要求聯(lián)邦快遞執(zhí)行聯(lián)邦政府的出口禁令。

The move comes after FedEx mishandled a couple of deliveries for Huawei, and failed to deliver a Huawei smartphone shipped from Britain to the US.
聯(lián)邦快遞此前已數(shù)次"錯運"華為的包裹，且未能將一部華為智能手機(jī)從英國寄往美國。

FedEx said in a statement Monday that the US Export Administration Regulations "violate common carriers' rights" by making delivery companies liable for shipments that may violate US restrictions. "FedEx is a transportation company, not a law enforcement agency," the statement said.
聯(lián)邦快遞24日在聲明中表示，美國的《出口管理條例》要求快遞企業(yè)對可能違反限制令的貨物負(fù)責(zé)，這一點侵犯了公共承運人的權(quán)利，"聯(lián)邦快遞是一家運輸公司，不是執(zhí)法機(jī)構(gòu)。"

The regulations "essentially deputize FedEx to police the contents of the millions of packages it ships daily even though doing so is a virtually impossible task, logistically, economically, and in many cases, legally," the company said in its lawsuit.

>5G terminals delivered
中移動交付萬臺5G終端

China Mobile, the world's largest telecom carrier by mobile subscribers, announced the delivery of over 10,000 5G terminals on Tuesday, which was the country's first large-scale delivery of 5G devices.
中國移動25日宣布，5G終端交付突破萬臺，這是國內(nèi)首次大規(guī)模交付5G設(shè)備。按移動用戶數(shù)量計算，中國移動是全球最大的電信運營商。

According to Li Huidi, vice-president of China Mobile, a total of 42 types of terminals, mainly consisting of smartphones and customer premise equipment, were delivered to major device manufacturers such as Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo, ZTE and One-Plus.
中國移動副總裁李慧鏑稱，已將總共42款5G終端交付給華為、小米、Oppo、中興通訊、一加等主要設(shè)備制造商，這些終端主要是智能手機(jī)和用戶端設(shè)備。

The fresh devices are likely to enter the market as early as in July after being granted network access from the authorities, said Li.

The telecom carrier plans to build 50,000 5G base stations in over 50 cities this year and will offer 5G services to all the prefecture-level cities next year, he said.

The company also disclosed on Tuesday that it will likely launch its 5G handset at a price of 1,000 to 2,000 yuan by the end of next year.
