The Louvre museum in Paris set a new visitor record of 10.2 million in 2018. It marked a 25% rise in visitors over the previous year, beating the previous record of 9.7 million visitors in 2012. The Louvre has managed to maintain its high numbers of young visitors – more than 50% are under 30 – and was helped by the success of Beyonce and Jay-Z's video for "Apeshit" last summer, which was shot in the museum and featured key works, including the "Mona Lisa" by Leonardo da Vinci, and Jacques-Louis David's masterpiece, "The Consecration of the Emperor Napoleon and the Coronation of Empress Josephine". The video, viewed more than 150 million times online, was a great success and led the museum to create a special visitor guide based on the video.

Belly fat has long been thought to be particularly bad for your heart, but now, a new study adds more evidence to the idea that it may also be bad for your brain. The study, from the UK, found that people who were obese and had a high waist-to-hip ratio (a measure of belly fat) had slightly lower brain volumes, on average, compared with people who were a healthy weight. Specifically, belly fat was linked with lower volumes of gray matter (腦灰質(zhì)), the brain tissue that contains nerve cells. "Our research looked at a large group of people and found obesity, specifically around the middle, may be linked with brain shrinkage," said lead study author Mark Hamer, a professor at Loughborough University's School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences. Lower brain volume, or brain shrinkage, has been linked with an increased risk of memory decline and dementia. The new findings suggest that the combination of obesity and a high waist-to-hip ratio may be a risk factor for brain shrinkage, the researchers said.

Evelina De Lain, 41, is the musician who set the world record for the highest-ever classical music concert, after she played a grand piano 5,000 meters high in the Himalayas. De Lain lost the ability to move her hands properly 14 years ago due to a repetitive strain injury. After undertaking an intensive course of therapy, she eventually regained most of the use of her hands. De Lain has created her very own mixed style of classical and jazz music. She performed Chopin's "Nocturnes" No 2 in E flat major and No 20 in C sharp minor during the 90-minute performance. She also played his "Raindrop Prelude" Op 28 No 15, as well as compositions from her solo album "Soul Journey".

It quantifies intelligence to include the number of Nobel Prizes each nation has won to represent historic intelligence, the current average IQ and "educational attainment" to represent the potential intelligence of the next generation. Asia and Europe dominate the list, with Japan taking the top spot thanks to its high placing across all three metrics, where it comes in fifth overall in the school test rankings and sixth overall in both Nobel prizes and current IQ. China ranked third. The US comes in an impressive fourth, although its ranking is flattered greatly by its extraordinary dominance in the Nobel category. And while Europe has an impressive five nations and regions in the current top 10, it's Asia that points to the future. The inexorable march of Asia's intelligentsia rightly garners more and more Nobel prizes.
