One of the 64 small satellites launched into space aboard the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket on Monday carried the cremated remains of 100 people, including veterans and space enthusiasts. The space burial was provided by the San Francisco-based company Elysium Space. With a price tag of $2,500, customers can send a one gram sample of ashes into space on board a 26-square-centimeter satellite called a cubesat, reports thedailybeast.com. After the remains enter orbit, the families can track the coordinates of the satellite online in real time. After four years, it will re-enter the atmosphere in an uncontrolled reentry, according to Thomas Cievit, the founder and CEO of Elysium Space.

>Asian hero film in the works

Marvel Studios reportedly is working on its first feature film with an Asian hero as the lead. Deadline reported that the studio is planning a film about Shang-Chi, also called the Master of Kung Fu. Created by Steven Englehart and Jim Starlin, Shang-Chi made his first appearance in Marvel comics in December 1973 following the boom of martial arts films thanks to the success of "Enter the Dragon". Shang-Chi was born the son of supervillain Fu Manchu, but later opposed his father's ways. In 2013, he joined The Avengers. Chinese-American writer Dave Callaham, who wrote the script for the upcoming "Wonder Woman 1984", along with Patty Jenkins and Geoff Johns, will write the screenplay. The script will modernize the hero to avoid stereotypes that many comic characters of that era were saddled with. The studio is already looking at a number of Asian and Asian-American directors, hoping to emulate the success of "Black Panther", which tapped into African and African-American culture and featured a nearly all-black cast.

Japan's last pager provider has announced it will end its service in September 2019 - bringing a national end to telecommunication beepers. Around 1,500 users remain subscribed to Tokyo Telemessage, which has not made the devices in 20 years. The once-popular devices are able to receive and show wireless messages. Users would then find a phone to call the sender back. Developed in the 1950s and 1960s, they grew in popularity in the 1980s. By 1996, Tokyo Telemessage had 1.2 million subscribers. However, the rise of mobile phones rendered the pager obsolete, and few remain worldwide.

Its publisher, Penguin Random House, announced on Nov 30 that the book sold more than 2 million copies across the US and Canada in the 15 days since its launch on Nov 13. The number includes all formats, including e-book and audio book. That means it has sold more copies than any other book published in the US and Canada in the entire year of 2018, Random House said. "Becoming" tops nonfiction bestseller lists not only in the US, but also in a number of other countries around the world, including the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Norway, and is being published in 31 languages. Events on Obama's book tour are also selling out, Random House said. In New York, people were waiting more than 16 hours in the cold for a book signing. The book gives unprecedented insight into Obama's life after a decade in the global spotlight. In it, she talks about her marriage, race, career, family, and various associated struggles.
