The Brexit deal thrashed out between negotiators from the European Union and the United Kingdom has been approved by the leaders of EU member nations, paving the way for the British Parliament to consider it in the weeks to come. Three main issues: the Northern Ireland border, the cost of leaving the EU and citizens' rights, are at the center of the deal. The UK has agreed to settle a 39 billion pound "divorce bill" with the EU. The deal also aims to protect the rights of EU citizens in the UK, and UK citizens in the EU. A Northern Ireland "backstop" was agreed, that promises to keep the border open if trade talks break down. The deal must now go before the UK Parliament in a vote expected in the second week of December. Prime Minister Theresa May is expected to travel the country for the next two weeks in a bid to get MPs onside ahead of the vote in Parliament. Should she fail, several possibilities remain, including renegotiations with the EU, a general election or a "no deal" withdrawal from the EU.

The Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday kickoff of the US holiday shopping season showed the increasing preference for online purchases, as more Americans opted to stay home and use their smartphones, while sales and traffic at brick-and-mortar stores declined. Black Friday pulled in $6.22 billion in online sales, up 23.6% from a year ago and setting a new high, according to Adobe Analytics, which tracks transactions for 80 of the top 100 internet retailers in the US. The Friday after Thanksgiving this year also was the first day in history to see more than $2 billion in sales stemming from smartphones, said Adobe Analytics. Shoppers were seen buying more big-ticket items like appliances, furniture and bulkier electronics from their phones.Based on Adobe Analytics's data, Black Friday average order values up 8.5% year over year to reach $146. Preliminary data from analytics firm RetailNext showed net sales at brick-and-mortar stores fell 4-7% during Thanksgiving and Black Friday, while traffic fell 5-9%, continuing the trend of recent years. Data from retail research firm ShopperTrak also showed that visits to stores fell a combined 1% over the two days compared with the same days in 2017.

Japan's government is considering a new way to get people to consider life outside Tokyo: Pay them to leave. According to a report by NHK, the government is mulling giving as much as 3 million yen to people who decide to relocate from the 23 wards of Tokyo and find jobs elsewhere, starting in the next fiscal year. Tokyo and the greater metropolitan area surrounding the capital, with a total population of some 38 million, have long bucked the trend in Japan when it comes to demographics, even as Japan's overall population shrinks. Tokyo and the prefectures of Chiba, Kanagawa, and Saitama posted significant population growth in 2017. According to NHK, the number of people moving to Tokyo has exceeded the number moving out for 22 years. Nearly one out of every three people in Japan lives in the Tokyo area.

Weddings are generally considered personal events reserved for family and friends, but some couples in India are more than happy to have total strangers from all over the world attend their traditional weddings, for a fee. Clients get to put on traditional Indian clothing, taste exotic food, witness and take part in beautiful wedding customs, and soak up the unique atmosphere. Wedding tourism in India is a growing business, and according to Orsi Parkanyi, the founder of JoinMyWedding, demand among tourists all over the world is high. The company has helped scores of international travelers - around 100 at least - attend over 25 weddings in India, she said.
