The iconic black jacket King of Pop Michael Jackson wore on his first solo tour, sold for $298,000 late Saturday, about three times its original asking price, at a New York auction featuring items from music legends Prince, Madonna, John Lennon and others. Julien's Auctions had an original asking price of $100,000 for the jacket that Jackson signed on the back with a silver permanent marker and was worn throughout the singer's "Bad" world concert tour from 1987-89. It was one of the late singer's most iconic costume pieces, alongside his red and black leather "Thriller" music video jacket that sold for $1.8 million at auction in 2011. Jackson's possessions have become some of the most sought-after celebrities collectible since his sudden death in 2009 in Los Angeles at age 50 from an accidental overdose of an anesthetic he was using as a sleep aid.

In Gisele Bundchen's new memoir "Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life", the supermodel reflects on her incredible career modeling for Victoria's Secret and how she made the surprise decision to leave. Bundchen was just 19 when she signed a commercial contract with the lingerie brand. At the time, she was "so happy" for the opportunity and financial security that came with it. "But as time went on, I felt less and less at ease being photographed walking the runway wearing just a bikini or a thong," she wrote. So by the time the supermodel was set to renew her contract in 2006, she was conflicted. To help her make up her mind, Bundchen relied on an unconventional method - she "crumpled up two small pieces of paper" with the words "yes" and "no" on each of them, and placed them inside an empty teacup. "I closed my eyes and set an intention: whatever piece of paper I chose would be for my highest and best self and be the right decision," she explained. And although the chosen piece of paper ended her career with Victoria's Secret, the supermodel said she's "at peace" with the decision - as it was the answer she "unconsciously wanted to hear."

Middle-aged people and those over 65 in the UK may soon be taxed to cover the cost of their later life care if proposals under consideration are given the go ahead. Matt Hancock, the Health and Social Care Secretary, said he was "attracted to" a cross-party plan for a compulsory premium deducted from the earnings of over 40s and over 65s. Hancock's comments suggest that the scheme will be discussed by Parliament and published by Christmas as one of their Green Paper proposals. The proposal is based on the German healthcare system where all workers over 40 pay 2.5% of their wages into a pot formally reserved for social care.

Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group cashed a record 213.5 billion yuan in sales on Sunday during its 24-hour online retail frenzy Singles' Day. Total sales on its platforms, including Tmall and Taobao, on Sunday represented an annual increase of about 27% from the 168.2 billion yuan a year ago, Alibaba said. The Tmall site smashed the 10 billion-yuan threshold in just two minutes and five seconds, breaking last year's record of 3-minutes, 1-second. The biggest spenders were from Shanghai, followed by those in Beijing, Hangzhou and Guangzhou. According to Alibaba, more than 19,000 overseas brands from 75 countries and regions participated in this year's shopping spree. Health supplements topped the most popular imported products, with milk powder, diapers and skincare products also high on consumers' shopping lists. Alibaba Group chief executive Daniel Zhang said the spending bonanza demonstrated "customers' continued pursuit to upgrade their everyday lifestyles".
