>Birth order affects career path
For many years, studies have shown that birth order affects personality, but new research confirms that whether you're an older, middle or younger child bears an impact on career path too. One of the most clear findings was that middle children are 30% more likely to become company CEOs than their siblings. Mark Zuckerberg, Lord Alan Sugar and Bill Gates are all middle children. The study also found that they're 41% more likely to be Olympic athletes. Interestingly, the researchers found that the majority of astronauts are first-born children - Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong are prime examples. Eldest children are also most likely to become scientists or engineers like Stephen Hawking and Tim Berners Lee. Youngest children like Johann Sebastian Bach and Mozart were found to be 50% more likely to have careers in classical music, possibly for their "sensitive and idealistic personality traits," the researchers suggest.
>Electronic skin developed
Chinese scientists have developed a graphene-based tattoo-like electronic skin, which could function as a wearable electronic device to monitor health. Scientists from Tsinghua University demonstrated a graphene electronic skin based on laser scribing technology. With the assistance of water, the electronic skin is transferable not only to human bodies, but also to other substrates such as leaves and silk. It could be attached to human skin as well as masks and throats to measure body signals such as breathing, heartbeat and voice. It can withstand higher temperatures and is comfortable to wear. With laser scribing technology, the pattern of the graphene-based electronic skin can be personalized, a feature that will help future commercialization. The electronic skin has huge potential in health care and intelligent systems, according to the scientists.
>Seniors using WeChat more
More Chinese senior citizens are becoming active users of WeChat, China's leading messaging and social media app, according to a recent study conducted by Tencent Research Institute and Shenzhen University. In September 2016, the number of active WeChat users over the age of 55 was 7.68 million, and in September 2017, the number surged to 50 million. The report showed that elderly users spend around 1.37 hours on WeChat every day and have 104 WeChat friends on average. Compared with other age groups, elderly users focus more on information and articles about cooking and health issues; at the same time, they are also more susceptible to internet rumors. The report also suggested that many use WeChat to have more interaction with their family members. For elderly users, 23.1% of their WeChat friends are family members, higher than both the young (9.7%) and middle-aged group (16.1%). The report said 50.3% of elderly users learned how to use WeChat from their children or grandchildren.
