The New Zealand company behind a landmark trial of a four-day working week has concluded that it was an unmitigated success, with 78% of employees feeling they were able to successfully manage their work-life balance, an increase of 24%. 240 staffers at Perpetual Guardian, a company that manages trusts, wills and estate planning, tested a four-day working week over March and April, working four, eight-hour days but getting paid for five. Staff stress levels decreased by 7% across the board as a result of the trial, while stimulation, commitment and a sense of empowerment at work all improved significantly, with overall life satisfaction increasing by 5%. New Zealand's workplace relations minister, Iain Lees-Galloway, said he was keen to encourage businesses to test new and improved work models.

Companies in China have successfully registered the trademarks of "Cristiano Ronaldo" toilets, "Messi" fruit juice and "Harry Kane" babywear using the football stars' translated names. Among the stars who have appeared in this World Cup, 31-year-old Argentinean Lionel Messi has the most popular name among Chinese firms. There are 166 applications containing Messi's Chinese name "Mei Xi" in the Chinese trademark registration system, and the products include cakes, fruit juice and lamps. In addition, there have been 30 trademark applications to use Neymar's Chinese name "Nei Ma Er", 14 to use Suárez's name "Su Ya Lei Si" and 7 under Pogba's name "Bo Ge Ba". While small Chinese firms compete to be the first to register football stars' Chinese names as trademarks, more and more high-profile Chinese brands are shelling out to sign international football stars to represent their products. Mengniu, China's second-largest dairy company and an official sponsor of World Cup 2018, has hired Lionel Messi to be its ambassador. The signing fee is said to be 40 million yuan.

French car maker Citroen recently unveiled a pair of glassless, liquid-filled eyeglasses that can reportedly treat the symptoms of motion sickness. So how do the glasses cure the annoying condition that has been plaguing mankind for centuries? Well, the secret is in those goofy plastic frames. That blue liquid in the rings around the eyes recreate the horizon line to resolve the conflict between the signals sent to the brain by the eyes and inner ear. You only need to wear them for 10 to 12 minutes after the symptoms of motion sickness set in, to make them go away. Motion sickness occurs when our brain perceives conflicting reports about perceived motion from the eyes and the inner ear. It's usually not a problem when a person is looking out the window because then both organs perceive motion similarly, but when you're looking down at a phone or a book, the eyes don't perceive the motion the same way, and the reports sent to your brain contradict those from the inner ear, and the confusion results in motion sickness.(See photo)

In collaboration with reporters from 18 news outlets all over the world, a German newspaper examined 175,000 scientific articles published by five of the world's most prominent pseudo-scientific publishing platforms. The result? The collaboration found that some 400,000 researchers worldwide have been published in these journals since 2013. The publishers target individual scientists by email, charge high fees in exchange for publication, and forgo international peer-review standards to publish quickly and frequently.
