本屆平昌冬奧會(huì)，很多運(yùn)動(dòng)員都打破了世界紀(jì)錄。在英語(yǔ)口語(yǔ)里說(shuō)到打破紀(jì)錄，我們常常會(huì)用到break a record。今天來(lái)講講它的多樣表達(dá)。

1. set a record

They want to set a record by making Buffalo's largest cookie.
他們想打破布法羅最大的曲奇的紀(jì)錄。

I checked the sales receipts, and we've just set a record.
我看過(guò)了營(yíng)業(yè)額，我們剛創(chuàng)下新紀(jì)錄。

【小知識(shí)】

如果說(shuō)set/put the record straight，就跟打破紀(jì)錄沒(méi)多大關(guān)系了，它的意思是陳述真相；澄清是非。

She's decided to write her memoirs to set the record straight once and for all.
她決定撰寫回憶錄以徹底澄清事實(shí)。

2. chalk up records

chalk sth up的意思是獲（勝）；得（分），比如：

New world records in the track and field events are chalked up from time to time in the past few years.
近幾年來(lái)經(jīng)常出現(xiàn)新的世界田徑紀(jì)錄。

3. create/establish/make/register a new record

She established a new European record in the high jump.
她創(chuàng)造了歐洲跳高的新紀(jì)錄。

4. beat/smash/shatter a previous record

beat、smash和shatter都有打、打破的意思，這幾個(gè)詞是不是比break更激烈更生動(dòng)呢？

She beat the world record in the three events she entered on her way to two gold medals and a silver.
她在三項(xiàng)競(jìng)賽中打破了世界紀(jì)錄，獲得兩枚金牌和一枚銀牌。

The film shattered all previous box office records.
這部電影打破了以往所有的票房紀(jì)錄。

5. surpass all previous records

surpass的意思是超過(guò)，優(yōu)于，勝過(guò)，比如：

His time for the 100 meters surpassed the previous world record by one hundredth of a second.
他以0.01秒的優(yōu)勢(shì)打破了100米短跑的前世界紀(jì)錄。

形容出乎意料就可以用到這個(gè)詞哦：

The book's success has surpassed everyone's expectations.
這本書獲得了出乎所有人意料的成功。

口語(yǔ)里也有刷新紀(jì)錄的表達(dá)，可以翻譯為：amend/rewrite/renew/better/improve a record。

好啦，既然本篇重點(diǎn)就是record，介紹兩個(gè)習(xí)語(yǔ)吧。

①off the record 私下說(shuō)的；不供發(fā)表的

She made it clear that her comments were strictly off the record.
她說(shuō)得很清楚，她的這些評(píng)論絕不許對(duì)外公布。

②on the record 公開發(fā)表；公開表明

None of the company directors were prepared to comment on the record yesterday.
昨天，公司董事沒(méi)有哪個(gè)準(zhǔn)備公開發(fā)表意見。
