有人請你吃飯,飯畢準(zhǔn)備結(jié)賬了,因為對方?jīng)]有及時掏錢包,你就慢慢騰騰開始掏錢包,做出要付賬的姿態(tài),這種情況在英語里就叫wallet threat。本來沒打算從錢包里往外拿錢的,忽然做出付賬的舉動,錢包就受到威脅了。是不是很形象?
Wallet threat is the reluctant act of pulling one's wallet out as a sign of willingness to pay for a meal that was assumed to be a treat. Normally, this threat would be immediately cleared when the people who offered the treat in the first place paid for the bill.
Wallet threat(錢包威脅)指被別人請吃飯時,不情不愿地掏錢包做出付賬姿態(tài)的行為。通常情況下,請客的一方結(jié)賬以后,這個“錢包威脅”就立即解除了。
比如下面這兩個人:
"Mike, put that thing away, dinner is on me tonight."
邁克,快把錢包收起來,今晚這頓我請。
"But it's so expensive."
可是這頓飯?zhí)F了。
"Dude, seriously, chill out with the wallet threat.
