英語里有個(gè)短語lion's share指最大的份額,而在美國(guó)科技公司里,人們都管中層管理人員叫l(wèi)ion food。這是為什么呢?
Lion food refers to anyone in middle management or a similar administrative position.
Lion food(獅子食)指中層管理崗或者類似級(jí)別行政職位的人。
為什么要用lion food來指代中層管理人員呢?據(jù)說這背后有個(gè)小故事。
Two lions escape from the zoo and split up to increase their chances of survival. They meet again after two months and find that one of them is skinny and the other is overweight. The thin one says:
兩只獅子從動(dòng)物園逃出來以后就分頭行動(dòng),以增加存活的幾率。兩個(gè)月之后,兩只獅子再次碰面,一只骨瘦如柴,另一只卻明顯超重。瘦的那只獅子就說:
“How did you manage? I ate a human just once and they turned out a small army to chase me — guns, nets, it was terrible. Since then I’ve been reduced to eating mice, insects, even grass.”
“你是怎么做到的?我就吃了一個(gè)人,然后他們就組織一小撮人追捕我,又是槍,又是網(wǎng)的,嚇?biāo)牢伊?。之后,我只能吃老鼠、昆蟲之類的了,有時(shí)甚至只能吃草?!?/p>
The fat one replies:“Well, I hid near an IBM office and ate a manager a day. And nobody even noticed!”
胖獅子回答說:“那個(gè),我是藏在IBM辦公室附近了,然后每天吃掉一個(gè)經(jīng)理。結(jié)果竟然沒人發(fā)現(xiàn)!”
