Xi discusses current issues with international leaders

President Xi Jinping met with the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach and seven countries' leaders over the weekend in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, while attending the opening ceremony of the second summer Youth Olympic Games on Saturday.
In his meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Xi said China will continue to work with the international community to prevent the spread of the Ebola virus outbreak. Ban said the UN appreciated China's assistance and that the international community should continue to help African countries fight the epidemic as China has done.
On the Ukraine crisis, Xi said the tragic crash of a Malaysia Airlines flight in eastern Ukraine underscored the importance of properly addressing the Ukraine crisis. Efforts should be made to ease the tense situation and prevent an acceleration of confrontations and conflicts. China continues to support the UN playing a major role in the process.
Ban said a political solution, rather than the use of force, is the only proper way to resolve the Ukraine crisis. The UN appreciates China's stance on the issue and hopes China will continue playing a constructive role in advancing dialogue and addressing the crisis in a peaceful way.
In his meeting with Singapore President Tan Keng Yam, the Singaporean side it is willing to push forward the establishment of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank with China and actively promote international business in Chinese currency.
Singapore is confident in China's development and pledged to develop friendly and cooperative long term relations with China. Singapore will continue expanding its contributions to enhancing mutual trust and cooperation between ASEAN and China to promote regional peace, stability and prosperity.
According to President Abdulla Yameen, the Maldives will respond to China's initiative to build a 21st Century Maritime Silk Road and welcomes Chinese companies to join in cooperative projects in tourism, infrastructure building and youth development. The Maldives is willing to enhance communication and cooperation with China on international and regional affairs to better cope with global challenges, including climate change.
