Sugar and Slate
Charlotte Williams
Charlotte Williams writes about her experiences of how "to be half-Welsh and half Afro-Caribbean was to be half of something but never quite anything whole at all"
A story of dislocation and self-discovery, it is both a personal memoir and a story which reflects the experiences of many mixed race people living in Britain.
Sugar and Slate takes us on her journey of self-discovery, from the small north Wales she was born in, all the way to Africa, the Caribbean then back to Wales.
The daughter of a Welsh speaking woman and a black man from Guyana, Charlotte Williams lives in North Wales, and works as a lecturer at the University Of Wales in Bangor. She is involved in a number of community projects working for black people in Wales.
Sugar And Slate was chosen by Josie d'Arby as her Welsh book of choice.
