Under Milk Wood
Dylan Thomas
Dylan Thomas' play is the remarkable, lyrical account of the fictional seaside town of Llareggub.
Hailed by some as his finest work, Under Milk Wood is in turn funny, touching, and delighful.
Completed in 1953, the year of his death at the age of 39, Dylan Thomas wanted to create a radio play that reflected the places he knew in Wales - particularly Laugharne, New Quay and Swansea.
A 'play for voices', Under Milk Wood was Thomas' attempt to write a 'Welsh Ulysses'. Heavily influenced by James Joyce's masterpiece, it recounts the dreams, gossip and waking hours of the sleepy seaside village over a period of 24 hours.
Under Milk Wood was chosen by BBC news presenter Sian Williams as her Welsh book of choice.
