BOCOG President Liu Qi met with Dr. Patrick C.P. HO, government
representative and secretary for the Home Affairs
Bureau of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on Thursday.
Dr. HO and his party were in Beijing to attend a signing ceremony of an
arrangement on equestrian competition of the 29th Olympic Games and 13th
Paralympic Games.
Extending his appreciation to various circles of Hong Kong SAR for their
long-standing support to the preparatory work for the Beijing Olympic Games, Liu
said he believed that the arrangement will lay a solid foundation for the
preparation of Olympic equestrian events.
Holding successful equestrian events is a common wish and responsibility of
Beijing and Hong Kong, said Liu. BOCOG (Beijing Organizing Committee for the
Games of the XXIX Olympiad) will continue to abide by the principle of "One
Country, Two Systems," fully respect the system and laws of Hong Kong, and
enhance cooperation with the government of Hong Kong SAR, the equestrian
committee and relative agencies to ensure success of equestrian events, he
added.
Liu is also member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the
Communist Party of China (CPC) and secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal
Committee.
Present at the meeting was Chen Zhili, state councilor and BOCOG first vice
president, and Tung Chee Hwa, vice chairman of the Chinese People's Political
Consultative Conference.
