China made a clean sweep of all the gold medals on
offer at the 2006 FINA diving World Cup which concluded on Sunday.
Lin Yue/Huo Liang grabbed the gold of men's 10m
synchronized platform to complete China's gold-winning
spree at the World Cup.
The teenager pair from the diving powerhouse held their top position
since the first dive and concluded their performance with a backward
two-and-a-half somersault two-and-a-half twist, collecting 104.88 points.
Earlier, world champion duo Guo Jingjing/Li Ting breezed to
the gold of the women's 3m synchronized springboard with a total score
of 343.80 points.
"I'm glad to conclude my World Cup journey with this gold, and I 'm
satisfied with our performance," said Guo.
Ariel Rittenhouse/Kelci Bryant grabbed the second silver medal of the
U.S. team by amassing 306.30 points. German Heike Fischer/ Ditte Kotzian
placed third at 298.68 points.
Li grabbed a gold in the 10-metre synchronized platform with Lao Lishi
at 2004 Athens Olympics but changed to the springboard afterwards.
Guo/Li has taken part in the event at five legs of the Grand Prix this
year and never lost the top position.
Guo notched up the women's 1m springboard gold in the
opening day on Wednesday but failed to grab China's 100th World Cup gold
as she placed third in the 3m springboard final. Her teammate Wu Minxia
topped the podium.
As the host of the five-day competition, China swept away all of the 10
golds plus four silvers and one bronze. Another traditional powerhouse
Russia took home two silvers and one bronze.
The U.S. team grabbed three silvers and two bronzes. In the absence of
Alexandre Despatie, Canada only ended up with three bronzes.
