常說大千世界無奇不有,瞧這篇題為“Fishy discovery leads to Australia drug
bust”的新聞,不僅標(biāo)題用詞醒目,內(nèi)容也甚是新奇——澳大利亞一名毒販竟然將39個裝有海洛因的安全套塞進腌制成的咸魚腹內(nèi)——可惜,偽裝再巧也在劫難逃,在通過海關(guān)時“咸魚”被邊境人員一雙亮眼全部繳獲。

對英語學(xué)習(xí)者而言,這篇新聞最大的價值在于它的標(biāo)題,頗值推敲。先來看bust一詞,我們最常見的bust用法是形容“半身雕像”或“女性的胸部”,如“量一下她的胸圍”就可以表達為:to
measure her bust size。在這則新聞中,drug bust指“毒品搜查”,其暗含意“毒品被繳獲,毒犯被逮捕”。
Drug在這里是俚語,常用作動詞——“逮捕、搜查”,請看下面兩個例句: The man was busted for
