several civilians and wounding others, including an infant. U.S. forces
suffered their sixth fatality in a week amid rising violence.
Zabul Gov. Ali Khail said U.S.-led coalition forces made "a mistake"
during operations against militants in the southern province and that
civilians had died. He gave no details.
The U.S. military denied civilians were at the scene of the fighting in
Day Chopan district Monday and the district's police chief said Taliban
insurgents had been hiding in the area. American officials said earlier
that 18 suspected Taliban guerrillas and one U.S. service member had been
killed in the clash.

7月1日，美軍在阿東部庫納爾省的空襲中炸死至少17名當(dāng)?shù)仄矫�，事后美軍曾發(fā)表聲明對誤傷平民表示遺憾，稱今后將避免傷及無辜。另據(jù)報道，駐阿美軍及阿政府軍9日在阿東部帕克提卡省執(zhí)行清剿任務(wù)時與武裝分子發(fā)生激戰(zhàn)，6名武裝分子在交火中被打死，3名美軍及1名當(dāng)?shù)胤g受傷。美軍工程人員11日在阿東部帕克提卡省參與公路建筑項目時遭到武裝分子襲擊，造成1死1傷。
