暴風(fēng)雨已在印度肆虐了一周多，成為印度自1846年以來遭遇到的最強(qiáng)的一次暴雨襲擊，孟買等地的洪水災(zāi)情一直沒能得到緩解。截至8月1日，洪災(zāi)造成的全國死亡人數(shù)已突破1千人。外電報(bào)道如下：Nearly a week after record rains fell on Mumbai, the Indian financial center
was fighting misery on different fronts as new downpours hindered cleanup efforts.
News services reported that rain was pounding the Mumbai area again on
Monday. Authorities said 1,000 people had died in western India.
The city formerly known as Bombay was deluged with 37 inches (940
millimeters) of rain in 24 hours Tuesday -- the most any Indian city has
ever received in one
day.
Downpour意為“傾盆大雨；暴雨”，其近義詞是cloudburst（傾盆大雨，豪雨）。據(jù)悉，聯(lián)合國已協(xié)調(diào)各人道機(jī)構(gòu)向印度提供緊急救助。兒童基金會(huì)、開發(fā)計(jì)劃署、世界糧食計(jì)劃署和世界衛(wèi)生組織等機(jī)構(gòu)已向印度災(zāi)民提供了食品、純凈水、藥品、毛毯和帳篷等緊急物資。
